Dry lips, hands, and feet are the worst. Did you know that dry skin is actually a really common side-effect of weight loss. This can be caused by dehydration, a decrease in vitamins, or a drop in the metabolic rate. Lucky for you, we know how to help you get your smooth, silky skin back. Here are 5 tips for treating dry skin while on a diet.

1. Take More Vitamin AWhen your Vitamin A levels are low it takes your body longer to replace skin at the surface and your skin isn’t able to retain as much moisture. Low Vitamin A means dry and itchy skin. So take some Vitamin A to help get your smooth skin back.

2. Make Sure You’re Getting Enough Omega-3

Those Omega-3’s help your skin retain moisture and stay hydrated. Taking more Omega-3 will nourish your skin from the inside out.

3. Drink More Water

Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day will help your skin stay hydrated and get rid of unhealthy toxins. Smooth skin won’t happen overnight but consistently drinking enough water for a few weeks will do the trick.

4. Balance Your Thyroid

A thyroid imbalance is a common cause of dry skin. When your thyroid level is low your metabolism slows down and your skin isn’t able to replenish itself. You can stimulate your thyroid gland with iodine, or foods high in iodine such as spinach and kelp.

5. Take a Warm Bath Not A Hot Bath

Taking a relaxing hot bath is amazing! But did you know that a hot bath will dry your skin out? Bummer! Taking a warm bath is your best bet. Just a simple change in temperature will help keep your skin more hydrated.
